Club, amateur and fun runners will be taking part in this year’s Retford Half Marathon which will take place on Sunday March 11th.

The annual event, which is organised by Retford Athletic Club, has been growing each year and is expected to attract around 1200 runners from around the area. It has become one of the single biggest events to take place in Retford on an annual basis.

event has come a long way since it began in 2013. In its first year, there were around 300 runners taking part. Within 3 years, the number of runners had to be capped at 1000 and 2018’s half marathon is quickly selling out.

The race will continue its recent tradition of starting and finishing at Retford Oaks. The fun run, which will be around 2.5 kilometres, will take place inside the grounds of the school.

A big part of the Retford half marathon are the charitable causes that will benefit from the race. Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice is the events main charity partner and will receive a donation from every ticket.

“A warm, friendly atmosphere”
We asked David Corbett, Race Director, what he thought the key was to the success of the race in recent years. He said, “Its good to be professional and organised, but we like to keep a warm and friendly atmosphere which helps. The base at Retford Oaks helps, with their facilities being good for families and spectators.”

He went on to add, “I’d like to thank all the businesses that help sponsor the race including Jones and Co., Ye Olde Bell, Houseproud, Cook & Mason and all the others who support us to keep the price down which helps fundraising.”
