Bassetlaw District Council have announced a new shop incentive scheme worth up to £5,000 to help a new business rent retail space.

The council have partnered with landlord Brearley and Company, who manage 57-59 Bridge Street, to offer the golden handshake deal in a bid welcome new business to Worksop.

The £5,000 incentive is split evenly. Half of the money comes in the form of discounted rent courtesy of the landlord, while the remaining £2,500 comes in the form of an enterprise grant from the council.

The council is also offering to provide a business mentor and the new business may also qualify for Small Business Rates Relief.

The scheme was praised by the council, with Councillor Simon Greaves saying, “I am delighted that we can partner with Brearley and Company and offer an incentive package to bring this town centre shop back into use…I hope that this incentive scheme can help re-let this shop and that we can welcome a new business to Worksop.”

This is good news for Worksop and a step in the right direction to encourage new business. We hope the scheme proves a success that will extend to the whole of Bassetlaw to help boost Retford Town centre.
